Configure employee weekly hours
Choose organization defaults, explicit limits or unlimited hours.
1. Hours modes
- Organization default: uses the default weekly hours from the organization working rules.
- Explicit hours: uses the weekly number entered for this employee.
- Unlimited: removes the employee-specific weekly cap from scheduling decisions.
2. How hours affect scheduling
Auto-Assign observes the configured weekly-hours rules. A manual assignment that exceeds an employee cap shows a confirmation with projected and allowed hours, so the manager can cancel or proceed deliberately.
Scheduled overtime is a planning metric. ElShift does not calculate legal or payroll overtime.
3. Work Patterns do not override weekly-hours limits
Weekly hours remain authoritative even when an employee has an active Work Pattern. A pattern can define working/rest days and an optional shift rotation, but it does not create extra weekly capacity.
If an employee legitimately needs more hours, configure the employee's explicit weekly hours. Use Unlimited only when the employee is intentionally not capped by the employee-specific weekly-hours rule.
Protected manual and approved-swap assignments remain manager-owned. If they exceed a hard weekly limit, final schedule review surfaces the exception instead of Auto-Assign silently deleting them.
4. How Work Patterns affect weekly-hour limits
When an employee has an active Work Pattern with a First working day, the pattern decides their working and rest days. A valid pattern can therefore produce more hours in one calendar week than the ordinary weekly-hours setting would allow for an employee without a pattern.
Employees without an active anchored Work Pattern continue to use the normal weekly-hour rules.
